The Marquise De Bassano

Nestled in a quiet street just above the landmark Chateau Frontenac hotel, La Marquise de Bassano offers a compromise between the elegance and charm of its 19th century origins and the relaxed simplicity of its young owner and staff.

The house

A victorian house, built in 1888 at the same time as the original wings of the Chateau Frontenac, the 15 des Grisons has conserved its authenticity: the Adams-style woodwork, stained glass, high ceilings. Even the bells used by the Marchioness of Bassano to summon the servants remain untouched. George Stephen, later Lord Mount Stephen, the scots-borm pioneer of the Canadian Pacific Railway, was one of the first owners. Today, it is Francis and Véronyc who welcome you.

In the morning

Awake to the clip-clop of the horse-drawn caleches in the street below and to the aroma of fresh coffee wafting up from the ground floor dining room. Follow your nose down the stairs and you will find croissants and chocolate breads, cold meats, chesse platters, hard boiled eggs, yogurst, fresh fruit, cereal, jam, white or whole-wheat bread. Breakast runs from 8am (or earlier on request) until 11am.
